There are many perfect reading spots, indoors and outdoors (as a child my favourite was the staircase, much to my family’s annoyance). Whilst the crowded doorways of the early morning commuter train is far from perfect, it seems that most of us persevere with reading all the same, whether we are wrestling with a newspaper or escaping into the less chaotic world of a favourite book, coffee in one hand, and book in the other. However, I’m sure that most of us are quietly wishing we could be reading somewhere else.

Today, having glanced at an article about the upcoming second instalment of J.R.R.Tolkien’s much loved fantasy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, I decided there would be no better place to read than in a cosy hobbit-hole, quiet and tranquil. It turns out this is entirely possible, as hobbit-hole tree houses have apparently become a popular thing…
