Mary-Jane Riley spent many years as a BBC journalist, presenting on local radio and covering major crime stories. Her interviews with Ruth Rendell and PD James encouraged her to begin writing crime fiction herself. A fellow of the Royal Literary Fund, she has published four contemporary psychological thrillers before turning to the aftermath of World War Two and the character of Beattie Cavendish. She lives in rural Suffolk.
