Rachel Caine is in the building
Just popped up to my desk very briefly to say that we have the wonderful Rachel Caine – author of the hit Morganville Vampire series – in the building right now! She flew in from the U.S yesterday and now is downstairs enjoying cupcakes and tea (how very civilised) and mingling with various booksellers who have been clamouring out for a chance to meet her. And she’s lovely – so lovely and down to earth – despite the fact she’s on the road to becoming the next Stephenie Meyer.
I had the privilege of being the first to meet her this morning as I took her around various Waterstone’s (Oxford Street, Piccadilly and Harrods) for stock signings, as well as Forbidden Planet – where we signed to the sound of the staff’s music choices, ranging from melodic ballads to Norwegian Death Metal (apparently the staff have merged their playlists giving rise to a brilliantly eccletic mix). Which led to the a conversation about the fact that Rachel listens to music when she writes, compiling different playlists depending on the mood she’s writing in. A little insight for you right there.
Anyway, we got back to the office in time to give her a quick sandwich, show her the just-in-from-the-printers copies of Lord of Misrule (they look amazing!) and get her to sign a mountain of more books, before the tea party began. Which I better get back to now! Our lovely Christina is snapping away with her camera so I’ll be posting pics from the event later this week. Watch this space!
