Wednesday Cover Story: The new look for Mary Russell…
There’s a little frisson of excitement in the office this morning, as the new titles in Laurie R King‘s bestselling Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes series have arrived from the printers…sporting the new cover design which we all adore.
I can tell you the screen shots do not do them justice. In fact, I wasn’t entirely sure about the new look at first, (although I did take an immediate liking to The God of the Hive which I find particularly striking) but now, seeing the books in the flesh, I have to admit they look absolutely fabulous. Shows how much I know…
Which of the covers is your favourite?
You’ll have to wait until July and August to see these gems in bookshops. Although you can get your hands on early copies if you attend one of Laurie R King’s UK speaking events this July – Go to our July News & Events.

It’s a tough choice, they’re all so beautiful. But The God of the Hive stands out for me the most. And the covers definitely do the books justice – I’ve just finished The Language of Bees – if you like intelligent, historical mysteries, please do yourself a favour and read it.
I absolutely love these books, but I’m sorry, I just don’t get it, I guess. The first cover of Apprentice shows a brunette, this new cover shows a redhead. Russell is blonde. I guess I’m old fashioned enough to expect inside the book what I see on the cover.
I’m glad to note the spelling of ‘beekeeper’ has been corrected. I’d have to say my favorite covers are tied between “The Game” and “Locked Rooms.” I quite agree with Lara, these are marvelous books – a very compelling read. I read the first “The Beekeeper’s Apprentice” last November and had read all in the series (with the exception of “The God of the Hive”) by January. Anyone who feels Conan Doyle didn’t quite finish Holmes’ story needs to read this series.
The BeeKeeper’s Apprentice is a keeper! I want to repurchase the entire series now!
Also love The Game…looks intriguing!
I like the Locked Rooms & The God of the Hive best. I too think Russell’s hair in the earlier book cover should match what the book says about her.
I like all of the covers. In the US, the covers are different, and I think I like the UK ones best!
