Christmas is a time for tradition, nostalgia and tear-jerkers…
The highly anticipated John Lewis chrimbo advert, featuring a bear that befriends a hare at Christmas, aired on our screens this weekend. It reminded me of one of my all time favourite children’s books and a certain Little Nut-brown Hare, from the charming storybook, Guess How Much I Love You, written by Sam McBratney. I don’t know if you were lucky enough to name this delightful title as one of your bedtime stories, but if, like me, you know of the book, then you will also know that it comes accompanied by your own little long-haired friend. If you thought the John Lewis advert brought a tear to your eyes, then grab the Kleenex, because this book is beyond adorable. Try to hold yourself together until the final page though…because then you’ll be sure to start sniffling.
And for those who loved John Lewis’ advert, here’s an interesting behind-the- scenes look at how it was created. They didn’t go all-out with CGI, but opted for a much more traditional illustrative look, much more in line with the sweet hand-drawn illustrations in Sam McBratney’s book.
