Occasionally we need reminding that we live in a culturally vibrant city. Someone must have shared this idle thought of mine as a new festival day is launching on Saturday 30th June celebrating the area around Charing Cross Road. If you’re not familiar with this part of London, it’s a hive of booksellers of all kinds: from the wonderful Foyles and Blackwell’s to the innumerable specialist or second hand bookshops that you can easily lose an hour or two in. They are getting together with the other fine food, music and other businesses in the area to put on a right old shindig. Live music, wonderful food, seminars about writing and breaking into publishing, author events, reading ailments and sorted with the Book Doctors, a literary pub quiz, a treasure hunt…  All areas covered by the sounds of things.
