Wednesday Cover Story: Hot stuff
There are times when you spot a book cover that just fits so well that you would like to shake the designer by the hand. And then there are times where the realisation of their design idea is so astoundingly apposite that I’m tempted to adopt a ‘We are not worthy’ pose along these lines.
This edition of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is one of those examples. Building in the novel”s preoccupation with book burning, is quite a feat. Designer Elizabeth Perez incorporated a match to the cover and a matchbook striking surface to the spine. Wow. At the moment the design was ‘just’ an assignment for a class, but the question is how long before it gets snapped up by a publisher to become a reality?
